Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters is the title given to the latter half of Dragon Ball Z Kai (ドラゴンボール改「カイ」, Doragon Boru Kai) for international distribution, covering Episodes 99-159. It aired from April 6, 2014 to June 28, 2015 on Fuji TV in Japan.

Kai originally ended with the Cell Saga in 2011. In 2012, Mayumi Tanaka (the Japanese voice of Krillin in the franchise) posted news on her blog confirming that Dragon Ball Kai would be continuing, as voice work was already under way for the early stages of the Majin Buu Saga. Her post went on to specify that the series revival is for the overseas market, however the episodes would end up airing on Fuji TV. The episode count was originally 61 in Japan, but 69 episodes were made for the International version, raising the total episode count for the entire Kai series to 167 episodes.

Dubbing HistoryEdit

The dub for Kai: The Final Chapters was announced in December 2016 to be airing on Adult Swim's Toonami block in January 2017, following the completion of the first part of the series on Toonami, after much waiting from fans for the second half to be released. The Final Chapters premiered and aired concurrent with FUNimation's dub of Dragon Ball Super in the U.S.

Sean Schemmel (Goku) and Kyle Hebert (Gohan) had previously stated that they were recording for the last part of Kai as early as April 2013, indicating that dubbing was completed for a long period beforehand. Sometime in 2015, it was confirmed at a convention that Tia Ballard would be voicing Marron in the dub. Australian anime distributor Madman Entertainment also stated that the Buu Saga should be released on November 8, 2014 on Cartoon Network, this, however, would not be the case.

Additional VoicesEdit

Music Edit

  • Opening: "Fight It Out"
Vocals: Masatoshi Ono
  • Ending: "Never Give Up!!!"
Vocals: Junear

NotesEdit

  • Brad Jackson regains the role of Oolong from Bryan Massey after returning to the voice acting business.
  • The Fake Actors re-enacting the Cell Games were originally voiced by members of Team Four Star, known for their Dragon Ball Z: Abridged parodies. Due to Toei taking offense, FUNimation was forced to change it, using archive audio from the original dub of Dragon Ball Z instead. However, the original version would end up accidentally being released on XFINITY TV Go.
